Kate Hudson Recreates ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ Scene With Dodgers Fan Friend at World Series
Game 5 of the 2024 World Series didn’t go the way New York Yankees fans hoped, but Kate Hudson fans got everything they wanted out of Wednesday night in the Bronx.
Yankees fans credited Hudson, 45, with helping then-boyfriend Alex Rodriguez overcome his postseason woes in 2009 as the Yankees won the World Series, and even though she couldn’t help New York to victory again, she created a viral TikTok video during the game that served as a great consolation prize.
Fans of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days will remember that scene at Madison Square Garden where Andie (Hudson) asks Ben (Matthew McConaughey) to get her a soda, causing him to miss the New York Knicks’ game-winning shot. On Wednesday, October 30, she recorded herself sitting next to a friend, decked out in full Los Angeles Dodgers gear, to do the exact same thing during the World Series.
“Can you go get me a soda?” Hudson asked her friend.
The friend replied with, “Right now?” to which Hudson confirmed, “Yeah, right now.”
@thekatehudson Game 5, bases loaded…
“No,” the friend replied curtly.
That friend got the last laugh as her Dodgers erased a 5-0 deficit amid a historic Yankees meltdown in the fifth inning to win their second World Series in five years.
Hudson’s followers loved it.
“Do people understand how ICONIC THIS IS?” one commenter wrote.
Another weighed in with, “This movie taught me to never be a man’s peace.”
The 2003 rom-com was a box-office hit, grossing more than $177 million on a $50 million budget despite receiving mixed reviews. Two decades years later, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days has stood the test of time. In 2019, news broke that the movie would get a TV remake treatment, written by Guy Branum and set to air on the now-defunct streaming service Quibi. (The remake, to this point, has not happened.)
Then, in July, Hudson revealed she would be open to a sequel.
“I think they’re always thinking about [a sequel],” she said on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. “All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I would be into the script. I think we’re both totally open, but it just never happened.”
For now, Hudson must remain content remaking iconic scenes for her TikTok audience — and that’s not all she’s been doing during the World Series.
Prior to Game 3 on Monday, October 28, she even reunited with Rodriguez, 49, who is now part of the Fox broadcast team. The two posed for a pregame photo next to the field with Kate’s brother Oliver Hudson and Rodriguez’s daughter Natasha, 19.
The photo showed off the temporary family strife between Kate and Oliver, as Kate wore her Yankees cap and Oliver had on his blue Dodgers hat. Natasha, of course, repped her dad’s former team with a Yankees jacket.
